The time is the same for both, the difference is the place. In a ceremony hall, your guests congratulate you in front of the hall, and for the couple portraits we walk into the streets around it. With a Dream Wedding you stay at your venue: the toast reception, the couple portraits and the celebration are in the same building or within walking distance, with no travel in between. At 4 p.m. the autumn sun is already low, which gives the couple portraits soft light.
In Vienna there are two ways to a civil ceremony, and both are legally equal. In the ceremony hall of one of the five registry offices (Standesamt), you marry Monday to Friday, in the morning or the afternoon. You reserve online, four weeks ahead at the earliest, and pay the federal fee of €193.
With a Dream Wedding (Traumhochzeit), the City of Vienna's term, the registry office comes to you, to a palace, a hotel, a wine tavern (Heuriger) or a rooftop terrace, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4 and 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 a.m., 12 and 2 p.m. The city charges €670 on weekdays and €995 on Saturdays, and the venue rental comes on top. You can reserve from the first working day in May for the whole following year.

Each department of the Vienna registry office (Standesamt Wien) is responsible for several districts, but you may marry in any of them. Alsergrund also coordinates all Dream Weddings and tourist weddings. As of October 2026, according to the City of Vienna.

There are also ceremony halls in Landstraße (30), Margareten (50), Favoriten (50) and Floridsdorf (40). The photographer counts as a guest. In Alsergrund and Ottakring the city can broadcast your wedding by live stream. The overview by the City of Vienna shows the current status.
So plan a quarter of an hour of buffer. I arrive before you and photograph your arrival and the first guests in front of the registry office, so the waiting time leaves images as well.
I publish images that show the registrar online only with their consent.

We talk by phone for about 30 minutes about your ceremony, the place and the time, and you get a first price estimate.
We meet for about 90 minutes in Vienna, and you page through three complete wedding albums. If you come from abroad, we skip the call and get to know each other in one longer Zoom conversation.
After that you receive a proposal for exactly your day. With the deposit, your date is confirmed.

No, most couples tell me that beforehand. During the ceremony you are busy with the ritual and barely notice the camera. For the couple portraits afterwards I show you how to stand and where to put your hands.
You get the first images the next day in the app. After 14 days the online gallery follows, with all images for download.
Yes. In addition to photography you can book a wedding teaser of about 3 to 5 minutes. For the registry office that means the ceremony, the ring exchange and the congratulations as a short film. I show you an example when we meet.
At the registry office the start shifts more often than you would think. You can book additional hours at any time, each additional hour costs €270. I approach you as soon as extra hours come up and get your approval.
The ceremony itself is indoors anyway. For the photos afterwards I know the covered corners around the Vienna ceremony halls, plus a transparent umbrella. We set the rain plan two weeks beforehand.
Yes. According to the City of Vienna, witnesses, the photographer, family and friends count toward the maximum number in the ceremony hall. The couple, an interpreter, minor children and city staff do not count.
Yes. Since January 1, 2019, all couples can marry in Austria, and in Vienna you can still enter into a registered partnership. I cover both, in the ceremony hall as well as at a Dream Wedding.
