Wedding at Walpersdorf Castle

A wedding in the Renaissance castle dating back to 1571: historic architecture, magnificent halls and a sprawling park in Lower Austria.

A wedding at Walpersdorf Castle combines history, elegance and modern comfort. The Renaissance castle from 1571 impresses with its architecture and gives couples and their guests a singular backdrop. Thanks to its Lower Austrian setting and versatile use, it's among the most popular venues in the region.

History and architecture

Walpersdorf Castle was built in 1571 in the Renaissance style and has outlasted many eras since. Its elegant architecture, the historic forecourt and lovingly restored details make it a jewel in Lower Austria. Today the castle serves as a cultural center and event location; careful restoration preserves the historic heritage while modern elements ensure the highest comfort for events.

Ceremony in the castle and the park

Civil and church ceremonies take place directly in the castle church. In addition, free ceremonies are possible in the park or the interior rooms, a lovely flexibility for individual concepts. The ornate interior of the church and the historic setting make every ceremony special.

A wine pairing of local wines can be booked directly. The technical basics include a sound system, stage, lecterns and radio microphones, with a tech team on request. Add to that extras like terrace receptions, candy and salty bars, coffee and cocktail stations, children’s corners and parking for up to 200 vehicles.

Staying over and the surroundings

Several hotels and guesthouses are close by, and on request the team arranges a shuttle between accommodation and the castle. The region around Walpersdorf rewards a longer stay: Göttweig Abbey, Grafenegg Castle and the town of Krems for culture, the Wachau with cycling along the Danube and hiking trails through the vineyards for nature. Ideal if your guests stay a whole weekend.

What a wedding at Walpersdorf Castle costs

The room rental alone tells you little, because cleaning, the catering kitchen and equipment are billed on top. So here is a realistic example first: for a Saturday wedding in June with 100 guests, with the ceremony in the castle church and the reception in the Great Hall, you land at around €4,980. That covers the Great Hall (€2,800), final cleaning (€450), the catering kitchen (€450), the church (€450), 100 chairs (€500), ten round tables (€130) and the sound system (€200).

Not included are catering, drinks, floristry, music and photography. If you celebrate Monday through Thursday or outside the summer months, the same hall costs considerably less: €1,490 instead of €2,800 midweek, and €1,980 on weekends from October through April.

Planning and organization

Viewings are possible year-round by appointment, and the Lederleitner team advises on planning, menu, decoration and technology. For individual concepts the castle works with Julian Amenth · Weddings & Events, who oversees weddings personally from the first idea to delivery, on request with wedding stewards keeping the day itself running smoothly. His couples share how that feels in the wedding soundbites. Lederleitner's in-house floristry, or alternatively Blumen Doll Vienna, provides the matching arrangements. For external catering, Schwarzhirsch Catering is a proven choice, and fine table linen comes from Mali Bernholtz at the TableClothShop.
